"BATTLE IN SEATTLE"
Nebraska Cornhuskers vs Washington Huskies
Sept. 18 2010 / 12:30pm Pacific / Husky Stadium, Seattle WA

We’ve received lots of questions from across the country about our plans for the big game Sept 18 at Husky Stadium, when the Huskers come to town! Our Washington Cornhusker board and volunteers have been hard at work talking with NU, UW, and others, and we created this page to provide the latest updates and details. Thanks for visiting, and please check back with us!

EVENTS: We still need volunteers for our many events between Wed 9/15 and Sat 9/18, so please email us to sign up! We’re still working closely with NAA (Nebraska Alumni Association) and NU Athletics on details for game-week, but here are the things we know:

Wednesday-Thursday 9/15-16

  • WA Husker Seattle Info Desk: The downtown Seattle Sheraton (6th and Pike) will be a hub of activity during days surrounding the big game -- that's where most NAA/Athletics travelers are staying. Our chapter volunteers will staff our own info desk (situated next to Nebraska Alumni Association and Nebraska Athletics desks) at the Sheraton, to share our local Seattle expertise with visiting fans.
  • Desk Hours:

  • Wed 9/15 noon-6pm
  • Thu 9/16 8am-6pm
  • Fri 9/17 8am-4pm

Our WA Husker event coordinators are John Wolf (jwolf50@comcast.net) & Jim Burkhardt (jim.burkhardt@gmail.com).

Friday 9/17

  • Husker Golf Outing
Enjoy some time on the links with fellow Husker fans at West Seattle Golf Course, on Friday morning starting at 9am. There are currently 5 tee times (20 total players) reserved for Husker fans to get together for some great Seattle golf fun. Greens fees (including cart) are $45.

Our WA Husker event coordinator is Bob Dermann (dermannra@comcast.net) and you can contact him to sign up. Contact Bob quickly as we need to close out tee time sign-ups by Wednesday, 9/15.

  • "Football Friday -- Game Preview," 4-6pm:

    Fox Sports Grill
1522 6th Avenue (one block west of Sheraton Seattle Hotel)
    (206) 340-1369
    foxsportsgrill.com

Join the Nebraska Alumni Association, the Nebraska Athletic Department, the Washington Cornhuskers and other Husker fans in Seattle for a FREE preview of the NU-Washington game. Our game preview panel will answer your questions about the team and the game. The panel will feature former Huskers and local Nebraska sports media. Enjoy food, drinks and giveaways, too! Seating is first-come, first-served, and get there early as we expect over 500 people. Doors open at 4 p.m. Our WA Husker event coordinator is Steven Hopkins (hopkisc@hotmail.com).

  • “Nebraska Night” at Safeco Field, 7:10pm: Join fellow Husker fans to cheer on the Mariners! Here's the official Mariners/Huskers web page, and a printable PDF with game info. Discounted tickets are $13 and $30, and are on sale now until Thursday 9/16. Our WA Husker event coordinator is Winfield Hobbs (wshobbs@comcast.net)
NOTE: WA Huskers are onboard to help provide transit from the Football Friday party (downtown Seattle; ends 6pm) to Safeco Field (game starts 7:10pm).

  • Sidetrack Band, 8:30pm: Lincoln legends "The Sidetrack Band" play at the new Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Seattle at 116 Pike Street. As per the band: "NO ADVANCE TICKET SALES - it's first come, first admitted, and we'll keep our fans posted about what time the doors open."

Saturday 9/18 (Game Day! Kickoff time is 12:30pm Pacific, with a national ABC broadcast)

  • NO TICKETS FOR THE GAME? -- Enjoy the game on TV with fellow Husker fans at our excellent watch-party sites: The Lucky 7 in Kirkland and O’Blarney's Pub in Olympia

  • FYI: Because of heavy construction around Husky Stadium, parking and tailgate space will be *extremely* limited this fall. Please plan accordingly!

  • Battle in Seattle Pregame: Our chapter will be hosting a pregame party at the Ivar’s Salmon House on North Lake Union for up to 300 Husker fans! Options include:
    • “brunch-only” tickets available for $32/person. This is an amazing full service brunch with some of the Pacific Northwest’s best seafood!
    • “boat & brunch tickets” available for $65/person. This includes the brunch plus round-trip boat transportation to and from Husky Stadium for the big game! The boat ride is a short 15min ride to Husky Stadium 90min before kickoff, and there is no experience in the world like showing up to Husky Stadium on the water!
    • NOTE – the ability to buy brunch-only tickets now ends September 9th so we can get a final count to Ivar’s. Please get your brunch only tickets purchased by September 9th!
Our WA Husker event coordinator is Steve Yoder (syodercully@comcast.net). Because of high demand and limited supply, the event is currently limited to Washington Cornhusker chapter members only, as well as chapter members from Oregon and Idaho. If you’re a member of any of those chapters, you will be receiving an email with instructions on how to take advantage of this event if you haven’t already done so.

  • "Husker Huddle" Pregame: (NOTE – THIS EVENT IS ALREADY SOLD OUT!)

Located at "The Zone" on the East Practice Field of Husky Stadium
Open 9:30-11:30AM before the game, as well as at halftime for Husker Huddle pass holders

The Huddle will feature the Husker Sports Network pre-game broadcast, as well as special appearances by athletic department and university dignitaries, Tommie Frazier and other former players. Come back at halftime for refreshments before heading back into the game. 900+ attendees are expected. Our WA Husker event coordinators are Bill Anderson (williama4@hotmail.com) and Lisa Anderson (lmanderson6@hotmail.com).
  • Sidetrack Band, 9-11am: Lincoln legends "The Sidetrack Band" play at the new Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Seattle at 116 Pike Street. As per the band: "We'll have plenty of time to get to the game and the bus service is free if you show your ticket on the way and your stub on the way back. There will be NO ADVANCE TICKET SALES. I'll let you know later when the doors open."
  • Postgame: Postgame capacity at "The Zone" by Husky Stadium is currently TBD; the WA Husker boat will also depart for Salmon House after the game (post-game festivities at the Salmon House are likely).

  • GAME TICKETS: The WA Husker chapter has already reserved and allocated a block of tickets for the game -- we no longer have tickets to offer. For all of you who purchased tickets from the WA Cornhuskers, our plan is to allocate and mail them to you via USPS priority mail this week. You should receive them by the 25th of August.

For non-members or out-of-state visitors: Because of enormously high demand ("highest in recent memory," according to UW), game tickets are tough to come by (FYI: face-value ticket price is $72). We're hearing from several individuals that they've had luck finding tickets (particularly General Admission) via StubHub (direct link here to the UW/NU page), so that may be worth a try. However, a bit of advice from "UW regulars" regarding tickets at Husky Stadium -- if purchasing tickets on the sides of the field, be wary of any rows lower than K. Because of the way the field is situated with the track, "you'll struggle to see over the team on the near sideline to try to see the other side of the field." The tickets may seem like they're "close to the action," but the field-visibility actually isn't good.
Our WA Husker ticket coordinators are Irene Bjorklund (Irene@tbarconstruction.com) and John Utecht (johute58@gmail.com).

LODGING: Rooms at the Crowne Plaza in September

Need lodging for you or your family/friends for the “Battle in Seattle” on September 18? The Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Seattle is one of the preferred hotels for Husker fans for the big game. Visit this web page to make your reservation online (group rate will be automatically applied), or book via phone at 1-877-410-2551. NOTE – the discount rates for Husker fans ended on August 20th, but there are still rooms available and lots of Husker fans to celebrate with!

The Crowne Plaza is located at 1113 Sixth Avenue (corner of 6th & Seneca), very close to the Seattle Sheraton and Fox Sports Grill (two of our Battle-week venues).

ELKS LODGE: Option for "Elks" visitors

(from Allen Schwerer at the Ballard Elks Lodge, allenrschwerer@yahoo.com)

I'm Allen Schwerer from Ballard Elks Lodge #827 in Seattle WA and I just wanted to extend an invitation to visit us while attending the upcoming UW/NU game in September.

Cornhusker Fans and Alumni are almost legendary in their devotion and loyalty to their team and are noted for their attendance at away games. I'm sure several of these visitors will be from Nebraska lodges and I hope they drop by for a visit while in Seattle.

Our lodge is located on the shoreline overlooking Shilshoe Bay in Ballard. The Social Area and Auditorium are located on the second floor of the building and parking is plentiful and free. The Social Area (lounge) has windows and a deck that have a spectacular view of Puget Sound. We feature a Happy Hour, Sunday-Thursday 3-6PM, and you'll find it a restful, scenic, and thrifty respite during your stay in Seattle. We are located at 6411 Seaview Ave NW, Seattle WA 98107 (Ballard is the name of the community we are located in) and our phone# is (206) 784-0827. We have a website, www.ballardelks.org, which is a bit dated but provides further details. There are staff available to answer questions Tuesday-Friday, 10-3 PM and after 3 PM your call is routed to the Social Area. Yes, our membership are devoted University of Washington fans (Dawgs) and we have one weird bartender who is a devoted LSU fan (we are a tolerant lot); but hopefully we can all share some friendly jibes and stories during your visit.

Hope to See You: Allen S
